Great British Seaside
2018, 4 x 3’00
Filmmaker Matt Mead
Client: National Maritime Museum
Production Company: Elbow Productions
“From the abandoned piers to the dazzling arcades, celebrate the British seaside through the lenses of Britain’s most popular photographers, featuring Tony Ray-Jones, David Hurn and Simon Roberts and new work by Martin Parr.”
Although this is quite an old project now, it’s one of my favourites for a few reasons:
– I got to work with photographers Martin Parr, David Hurn and Simon Roberts. The late Mr. Parr even commended me for the film I made.
– I love the seaside and got to visit new spots in England and Wales.
– The super wide aspect ratio (two edge-blended projectors for a 6.6m x 2m screen) in a beach hut installation at the National Maritime Museum was a great way to experience these films about seaside photography and allowed for some fun compositions.
These films were made with Elbow Productions and a minimal crew, just myself and a producer.
