I’m Matt Mead — a filmmaker in the broadest sense of the term, encompassing making my own films and collaborating with others in roles such as cinematographer and editor. I know the film industry favours exclusive specialisation, but I think certain projects benefit from a broader skillset and experience and I invite you to view my portfolio to see for yourself. I’m queer and neurodivergent and I’m excited by radical projects that push boundaries.
I started my career in 2011 working as an assistant in various departments and I’ve mainly learnt by doing: either from more experienced crew on feature films, music videos and commercials or by making my own projects. You can see some of my credits on IMDB.
In the heritage and cultural sector, I’ve worked on films, shoots or edits for: Tate Modern, V&A, IWM, British Museum, Science Museum, MOMA, Wellcome Trust, National Archive, National Trust, Young Vic, Central School of Speech and Drama, UCL, English Touring Opera, Sadlers Wells, Royal Albert Hall and many others. My own films have screened at London Short Film Festival, Aesthetica, Fringe!, GAZE Dublin, and Sheffield DocFest, amongst others.
In 2024 I was selected to be part of the inaugural BBC Films x National Film and Television School Sean Connery Talent Lab as a cinematographer and to be part of the British Society of Cinematographers Mentor scheme.
